Resistances

Elemental percentage resistances have diminishing returns above 30% and cap at 80%, or 50% in PvP.

The rule#

Your equipment, scrolls and bonuses give resistance points. Up to 30 points, each point gives 1%. Beyond that, the price of each percent doubles every 10%, gradually and with no steps: about 2 points per % from 30 to 40%, 4 up to 50%, 8 up to 60%, 16 up to 70% and 32 up to 80%. It takes 50 points for 40%, 90 for 50%, 170 for 60%, 330 for 70% and 650 for the 80% cap; further points no longer count.

Partial points round down: 31 points still give 30%, 32 points give 31%, 100 points give 51%.

In PvP: 50% at most#

In every PvP fight (duels, aggressions, offline echoes, the Kolizeum, PvP Wars, Perceptor and prism fights), the same fights where life is multiplied by 5, your percentage resistances are capped at 50% after the curve. With 650 points you have 80% against monsters, but 50% against players; past 90 points, more resistance only helps against monsters.

The cap also applies to your heroes and to a Sram's Double; your summons inherit your capped resistance. Perceptors, prisms and companions keep their usual resistances.

Cost of each band#

Above 30%, the price of 1% doubles every 10%. It rises a little with every percent, with no steps: the column gives the band's average price and, in brackets, from its first to its last percent. The colour of the value tells you the band.

Orange50 to 60%8 (6 to 10)170

Examples#

  • 75 points: 30% for the first 30, 10% for the next 20 (40% at 50 points), then 7% for the last 25 (3 to 4 points per %), for 47%. 100 points give 51%, 200 points 62%, 300 points 68%, 500 points 76%.
  • Combat bonuses and penalties count as points too. At 90 points (50%), a +20% bonus gives 53%, not 70%. At 650 points (80%), a -20% penalty leaves 79%.
  • Negative resistances are unchanged: -20 points give -20%.
  • The rule applies to characters. Monsters and sidekicks keep their usual resistances; a player's summons take, resistance by resistance, the higher of their own and their summoner's (percentage, flat, critical, pushback), read when they appear, without fight buffs.

In game#

The fight panel and the characteristics sheet show the effective resistance in its band colour. In the Details tab, hover a resistance's name to see the rule again, or its value to see your points, your percentage and the price of the next percent. Your spells' damage preview uses the same rule. In PvP, they show the value capped at 50%.
